Sani Musa Deserves a Prime Place in 10th Senate Leadership – Niger Delta Group

Immediately after the triumphant return of the President-Elect Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a group under the aegis of Niger Delta Progressive Youths Frontiers led by Hon Oyinemi Nicholas Endeley has asked the President-Elect, vice-president elect, and leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress to unanimously support the aspiration of the chairman Senate services Committee, Senator Sani Musa, Niger East to lead the Senate as a presiding officer.

The statement reads, “First of all, we are all excited on the return of our president elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu after a deserved victorious rest. There is no secret saying he is coming down to face his first most important national assignment since he became president-elect. And I dare say it will be one of, if not the hardest decision in his reign as president.

Why I say this is because, we saw how the 8th national assembly derailed the Buhari’s led administration, and caused division in the country. For Tinubu to succeed, he has to make firm decisions now, in choosing competent, proficient law markers to lead the 10th National Assembly. Failure to do so, is already a recipe for a disastrous and ruinous political environment which will give birth to a failed country. God forbid we see the Tinubu and Shettima presidency fail.

It is with this in view that we support the tentative proposal of the zoning formula drawn up by the APC governors.

Having seen the mood of the nation and listened to not only politicians but also critical stakeholders in Nigeria, it is only wise to look at the South and choose a Christian Senator to be the Senate president.

Having said that, the North Central should be allowed to produce the deputy president of the Senate. It is a straight forward permutation that will calm the toxic environment we now find ourselves in this nation.

We are also using this medium to ask the President-Elect, the Vice-president Elect, the leadership of the Party APC, to endorse Senator Sani Musa of Niger state as the Deputy president of the Senate.

His competence, brilliance, youthful posture and loyalty is all that Tinubu needs in a Senate president. He is more competent than anyone contesting with him for the number 3 man in the country. But considerations should be given to our secularity and diversity as a people. Even Senator Sani Musa was the first Northern politician to acknowledge this fact and he deliberately made a vow, to step down if only a competent Christian Senator comes up and ask him to step down. This is the kind of character we need in a Senate president, where his ambition doesn’t becloud his sense of patriotism and love for not only his party but his country.

We also need a Senate president who loves, respects the youths of Nigeria and who is ready to usher in credible youths into the political space in the country. This is the major reason we are backing the Senator and we are asking our president elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to endorse Senator Sani Musa.

We also need a leader that thinks outside the box. We all know the role Senator Sani Musa played in reshaping our electoral processes. We know the brainchild behind the INEC card reader, which curbed over voting and malpractices. We know about how this metamorphosed into what we know as the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which reduced cases of manual manipulation of figures and over voting drastically. These are innovations that come with electing competence and proficiency.

Lastly he is a detribalised Nigerian who has shown this time after time. Let me make a little revelation, many do not know that Senator Sani Musa was the first Senator to fly into England when we all heard of the unfortunate incident that happened to Senator Ike Ekweremadu. Sani Musa flew into London the next day, to see how he could rally round and help.

In fact, he was also trying to get competent lawyers to help Ekweremadu in the early stage. He never looked at the fact that Ekweremadu was not in his party, was not his tribesman and wasn’t practising the same religion with him. He swung into action immediately to try and understand the situation of a senator in need at that time. This is the kind of man fellow Senators need in their corner. This is a man, Tinubu needs in his corner, this is a man youths need in their corners if we are to break the jinx of “leaders of tomorrow”. Sani Musa can help us break the jinx.
