CAN Suspends Gombe Chairman for Congratulating Controversial Isa Pantami
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has suspended the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Association’s Gombe Chapter for congratulating controversial Islamic fundamentalist and Minister of Communicatiins and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on his equally controversial promotion to the rank of a Professor by the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
The suspension notice was contained in a statement signed and made available to News Medal today by the National General Secretary of CAN, Barr Daramola Joseph Bade.
CAN described the publication of congratulatory messages and press releases by chairman of its Gombe Stare Chapter as “tantamount to unilateral decision of you and overzealousness on your part which was done without authorisation and clearance”.
Continuing, the letter reading, “In view of the above, you are hereby directed to relinquish your position in Gombe CAN Executive with immediate effect”.
Recall that CAN Gombe State Chapter had caused some furore among its members who were not comfortable with the congratulatory message especially the wording which described the controversial Pantami as “our own son and brother” after revelations were made of his earlier support for known global terrorist groups.
