Abia Speaker Chinedum Orji Donates Block of Classrooms to School for the Blind

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji FNSE has donated a block of classrooms to the School for the Blind, Afaraukwu, Umuahia North LGA.

At the handover ceremony on Thursday, the Speaker who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Nze Kenneth Ezeigbo said he has a particularly special place in his heart for people living with disabilities (PLWDs) which was the reason he ensured the passage of the Abia State Commission for Disabled Persons Law otherwise known as “Disability Law” by the Abia State House of Assembly to ensure that they lead a normal life despite their physical challenges.

While reiterating his unwavering commitment to the PLWDs which is the reason he also donated the block of classrooms, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji urged them not to see their special situation as an impediment to their dreams but that they should use it as a motivation to be great men and women which society can always be proud of.

While thanking the Speaker on behalf of the teachers, Mr Ishmael Ohaeri said they were particularly touched by the Speaker’s gesture because the block of classrooms will go a long way in enhancing their teaching and learning. He therefore prayed God to bless the Speaker abundantly.

Responding on behalf of the students, Master Ikechukwu Matthew thanked the Speaker for his kind gesture and for passing the “Disability Law”, saying that the law is an indication of the Speaker’s love for them as it shields them from all forms of discriminations in the society. He said the new block of classrooms will be well utilised by them as a mark of gratitude to him.

In the same vein, the Principal of the school, Mrs Celine Ngozi Ologu expressed gratitude to Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji for the donation and said she will ensure the best use of the facility so the students can continue to feel the impact of the Speaker.

The entire school thereafter went into a praise and prayer session for the Speaker.

The donation adds to Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji’s numerous other donations to various schools in the state.
